The degree in earth and environmental science at ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥app is flexible, and when paired with a non-science minor such as education, political science, English or business can lead to many exciting career paths. This bachelor of arts program is ideal if you’re interested in a specialized career path such as teaching, environmental law or business consulting.

If your goal is to teach high school sciences, there is a track specifically designed for you, and will satisfy the requirements leading to a Pennsylvania Secondary Teaching Certificate in Earth and Space Science. By adding courses in chemistry and biology, you will also satisfy the requirements for a Pennsylvania teaching certification in general science.

What Will You Learn as an Earth and Environmental Science Major?

  • As an Earth and Environmental Science major, you’ll study human interactions with the earth and the environment and its implications.
  • You’ll learn the basics of environmental science, including geology, meteorology, environmental engineering, ocean science and more.
  • In a field laboratory component to each earth and environmental science class, you’ll conduct field-based analysis of local geologic features, soils and aquatic ecosystems.

Program Highlights

Research

Conduct research with faculty members who are passionate about their fields both in the laboratory and out in the field. Small class sizes provide a setting for direct interaction between faculty and students. Beginning as early as your first year, you’ll operate lab and field equipment that only graduate students at larger research universities get to use.

State-of-the-Art Laboratories

The Civil and Environmental Engineering department houses modern laboratories dedicated solely to undergraduate teaching and research: Air Quality, Water Quality and Wastewater, Geology, Toxicology, Geographic Information Systems, Hydrolog, Ash/Cenosphere, Environmental Chemistry and Rock and Soils.

Cooperative Education

Cooperative education integrates your studies with work experiences in employing organizations, or student teaching if you are on the education track.
