The Whispering: Screen Performance Exhibition

Echoes carried on fragile feathers.

The Whispering is an invitation to dwell within the spaces between sound and silence, light and shadow, presence and absence. This exhibition gathers a constellation of performance videos that move delicately along these thresholds, where gestures dissolve into breath, and stories are murmured rather than told.

The Sordoni Gallery will have this exhibition open Sept 16-Oct 8. Tuesdays to Fridays from 10am-5pm, Saturday and Sunday from 12pm-5pm.

The Whispering:Screen Performance Exhibition is an invitation to dwell within the spaces between sound and silence, light and shadow, presence and absence. This exhibition gathers a constellation of performance videos that move delicately along these thresholds, where gestures dissolve into breath, and stories are murmured rather than told.

Please join us for an opening reception on Tues., Sept. 23 from 5 to 7 pm. Lite fare and a beer/wine bar. The Scranton Fringe Festival will have an information table at this event. 

Artventurers: Movement Movie

Saturday, September 27, 2025 | 12 PM

Sordoni Gallery Artventurers, invites young explorers and their families to discover the world of art through creativity, curiosity, and hands-on fun. Each session offers a hands-on activity and storytime with the Osterhout Free Library. New Artventurers will receive a free sketch book to collect their badges.

For this Artventurers session, families will create their own Screen Performance video inspired by those shown in The Whispering: Screen Performance Exhibition. These short videos can be created with provided prompts or completely improvised. All equipment will be supplied and no prior experience is required.

Art in Context screening: The Artist is Present

Wednesday, October 1, 2025 | 5:15 PM

Join the Sordoni Art Gallery on Wed, Oct 1 at 5:15 for a special *Art in Context screening of Marina Abramovic: The Artist Is Present (2012).

This documentary follows Abramovic, a Serbian conceptual and performance artist, as she prepares for a retrospective of her work at The Museum of Modern Art. She recounts the highs and lows of her career and the evolution her work with themes of body art, the relationship between the performer and audience, the limits of the body.

Last Look Brunch with Gallery Tour

Take one last look at The Whispering with a tour from gallery director, Heather Sincavage on Sunday, Oct. 5 from noon to 2 pm. Refreshments and a light brunch will be served.
